Nyaradza Mawondo

I am Nyaradzo Mawondo. I was born in Harare, Zimbabwe and raised in Mutare where I attended Chancellor Primary School. At the age of 8, I moved to the UK. It was extremely hard for me to fit in, english was not a language I was confident in speaking and the change in environment was daunting which is why I am very proud at 20 to now be studying Law LLB at Brunel University.

Entering Miss World Zimbabwe UK is something I thought deeply about, the changes I want to make need more than an education, they need a global platform. I have extremely passionate about exposing and eradicating corruption, which not only occurs in Zimbabwe ,but is a global issue. It is my pursuit of justice which inspired me to study law and if I was to be crowned Miss World Zimbabwe UK, I would use the title as a platform to raise awareness about the repression that Zimbabweans (especially women) face domestically as well as globally. I believe that as it is now the 21st century – an age where information can be shared so easily all over the world; there has never been a better time for Zimbabweans to find their voice and speak up against the injustices they are faced with on a daily basis.

One of my biggest role models is Beatrice Mtetwa, an exceptional Zimbabwean human rights lawyer who has received numerous international awards for her work against the repressive government. Another one of my role models is Maya Angelou, who was not only a wonderful poet but a fearless civil rights activist.

In 5 years time, I hope to be working in the field of human rights, helping to establish and affirm human rights laws in Zimbabwe as well as internationally.

My interests outside of my chosen career include travelling, hiking, reading novels,

photography and learning new languages. I like being around nature and exploring new places. Additionally, I love meeting new people and interacting with people from all walks of life. I also enjoy watching films, particularly period or historic pieces as well as the odd rom-com.

Above all, my favourite thing to do is to listen to music and dance around, when no one is looking of course!
